How to be happy

Happiness is one of those things that almost everyone wants. It’s one of the keys to success. Regardless of what you have, if you are in a constant state of sadness and sorrow, then something is amiss. So what does it take to be happy? Are some people born happy? Or as I have heard a couple of times, are some people naturally sad? I doubt it. I believe behavior is mainly learned. Of course there are some personalities that find it easier to be happy than others. Having said that, everyone can learn to be happy using the right mindset consciously. Here is how.

Celebrate the ‘little’ things
I was talking to a gentleman who always felt that no matter what he did or accomplished, he felt there was something missing and he never got satisfied. He never celebrated.

For whatever he did, he felt there was something extra he could have done. I find this trait common amongst competitive personalities. The positive side to such an attitude is that they are driven to achieve more. The downside is that they are rarely happy. Constantly under stress which takes a toll on them. And any ‘failure’ puts a very bitter taste in their mouth. If only they could learn to celebrate whatever is achieved, they would feel better, happier and therefore get more energy to push for further conquests. Now, as I imagine you reading this, I sense you fit the above description. I know you do because you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t an achiever. The gift I am giving you is to learn to celebrate whichever milestone you achieve.

Admire the good
When I see a nice car, I smile and feel good in my heart because it’s a sign that I might also get it since it’s being driven by a human being like myself. I will admire flowers and all God’s creations that are pleasing to the eye. There are lots of good things in this world. One of the core differences between sad people and those who are happy is that the sad ones tend to focus on what is bad and ill while the happy ones focus on what is good and beautiful in this world. I hope you chose the latter.

Decide to be happy
When you wake up, decide that you will be happy or at least feel better no matter the situation. Decide right now that you will choose to focus on what makes your heart sing with joy. That awareness alone will make your senses heighten to look for things that will make you happy.

Make someone happy
Unless you are a sadist who I highly doubt based on information available about you, I know that you feel happy when you do something nice for another person that makes them happy. Go ahead and do something for someone else with an intention to make their day and that will remake your world with incredible happiness. Remember the old principle of what you give out, you get back multiplied. So, why not make someone else happy?
